The game
Final Fantasy Resonance is the first Final Fantasy built in HD-2D — a brand-new, fully single-player RPG that reimagines the opening arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. It releases October 22, 2026 on all platforms.
The announce trailer, from the official FINAL FANTASY channel — all media here.
The story
The Kingdom of Grandshelt has watched over the realm's eight protective Crystals for generations. When Veritas of the Dark, an armored warrior of terrifying power, descends to shatter them, knights Rain and Lasswell — joined by the mysterious Fina — set out to stop him.
If that premise sounds familiar: Resonance retells the first saga of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the mobile RPG that ran from 2015 to 2024, rebuilt as a premium standalone adventure with new story additions. No prior knowledge required — this is a fresh telling, not a port. Curious about the heritage? Our spoiler-light Brave Exvius primer has you covered.
Confirmed systems
Resonance is the first Final Fantasy rendered in HD-2D — detailed pixel-art characters inside diorama-like 3D environments with modern lighting, the style pioneered by Octopath Traveler and the Dragon Quest III remake.
Battles are fully turn-based, blending classic Final Fantasy strategy with modern systems. Exact mechanics (ATB-style bars, brave/default-style twists, limit bursts…) have not been detailed yet.
Classic Final Fantasy summons return in Resonance. Which summons appear and how they integrate into combat is still to be revealed.
FFBE legacy: In Brave Exvius, summons are espers earned through trials and bonded to the party — Siren, Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Odin, Bahamut and more.
A battle arena returns as side content, offering ranked fights and rewards outside the main story.
A dedicated side storyline featuring Gilgamesh, the series' wandering blade collector, has been confirmed among the game's optional content.
The series' beloved mascots are both present — expect chocobos for traversal flavor and moogles around shops, saves or services, as tradition demands.
Ultima Arma has been shown as one of Resonance's major boss encounters — a returning threat for Brave Exvius veterans.
FFBE legacy: In Brave Exvius, the Aigaion/Arma war machines were infamous high-difficulty trial bosses.
Crossover
True to Brave Exvius' crossover spirit, heroes from across the saga appear in Resonance: Cloud Strife, Tidus, Warrior of Light are all confirmed. How they weave into Grandshelt's story is still a mystery.
